Hope for the Disadvantaged
Solomon writes in Proverbs 19:17, “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given.” Although Israel has experienced periods of relative peace and strong economic growth in recent years the nation still has a higher rate of poverty than most developed countries.
The ICEJ works to meet these immediate needs on the ground, for example, the recent Coronavirus pandemic.Covid-19 found many Israelis struggling to make ends meet. As with any crisis, it hit the vulnerable segments of the population the hardest, especially those who were dependent on state social services. Massive unemployment has taken its toll and has stretched Israel’s social welfare system to its limits. ICEJ has stepped up its efforts to reach the poorest of Israel’s population in view of this mounting need.
