Part One of the Golan Heights Video Series

The Golan Heights is a long, flat, plateau in Northern Israel, which has been in Israel’s hands for 50 years. But why does Israel need to hold on to the Golan Heights going forward?

After Israel captured the Golan from Syria in 1967, they had to continue to defend it in 1973 during the Yom Kippur war. It was an intense battle, but since Israel’s victory in 1973 the Golan Israeli border has been the most quiet compared to all the other borders of Israel. Yet, over the past eight years there has been a civil war in Syria, and when you are in the Golan Heights you can hear the bombs going off in Syria.

Before the Syrian civil war, Israel wanted to give the Golan Heights back to Syria, but most Israelis are glad that their leaders held on to the Golan.
