Feast of Tabernacles Garden Tomb service and the Jerusalem March
Published on: 5.10.2023By ICEJ Staff
Thousands of Christians attending the ICEJ’s annual Feast of Tabernacles celebration in Jerusalem this week enjoyed a warm evening of music and solidarity with hundreds of Israeli guests on Tuesday (03/10/23), then gathered the next morning for a moving Communion Service in the tranquil setting of the Garden Tomb, before spilling out into the streets of the city for the ever-popular Jerusalem March.
The traditional Israeli Guest Night on Tuesday evening saw Christian pilgrims from around the globe mixing with local Israelis for a lively multi-cultural Succot celebration that also featured special guest IDF Brig. Gen. Avigdor Kahalani (ret.), an Israeli military hero who made an appearance to mark the 50th Anniversary this month of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The festive evening included performances by a variety of musical artists from Israel and abroad, including an Iranian-born singer and an Israeli-Ukrainian klezmer band, and also was infused with a strong expression of Christian support for Israel.
Meanwhile, day six of the Feast began with a memorable Communion service in the peaceful Garden Tomb, just outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls. Feast pilgrims always find something uniquely special about taking Communion before the empty tomb with fellow believers from around the world!
“It’s special to be here and to know that our Lord is no longer in the grave. Our Savior lives and gives us hope,” shares Tiara from the Cook Islands.
Tomasi from Australia added: “The atmosphere here is totally different. You can feel the presence and looking at the people, and the Communion, it is real to you.”
Meanwhile Vilma originally from El Salvador and now living in the USA shared: “I feel like I’ve been redeemed by my Savior because he is no longer in the tomb”.
Rigamoto came to Israel on the first-ever Fiji Airlines flight to arrive at Ben-Gurion airport. He shared that he is speechless at seeing the empty tomb. “He has done what He said. He saves!”
A Norwegian worship band led the pilgrims into the Lord’s presence before Israeli Jewish pastor Sasson Pochtar and Arab pastor Saleem Shalash presided over the Communion. Former ICEJ executive director Rev. Malcolm Hedding then brought a powerful Resurrection message which touched and transformed many lives.
Later on Wednesday afternoon, the throngs of Christian visitors paraded through the streets of the capital city and greeted the scores of local Israelis who came out to watch the Jerusalem March – a Succot favourite.
The cheerful crowds were pleased once again to see the national delegations, many dressed in traditional outfits, parading through the streets of Jerusalem and handing out their country’s flags in a sign of friendship with the Israeli people.
